Archiving Samples
Here are three samples of three archiving methods.
Click to play. Right-click to download.
First is a half speed noise removal system. Music is contained within a specific frequency range. Clicks and pops are mechanical noise that transcends this frequency limit. By performing the noise removal at half speed, it is easier to tell the difference between the music and the noise. This sample was from a shelac ref disc made at a mastering facility and played many times. Here is a before and after sample. These are mp3 (224kbps) format samples to lessen download times. The differences are so great that the lesser format does not reduce the dramatic differences in these methods. Notice the snare played with brushes. The noise removal does not harm the delicate feel.
This sample is of the vacuum process. The tape used was marginal, and would play back on the analog machine Thefirst part of the sample is before vacuum. The tape was then processed through the vacuum system. This is what you hear in the second part of the demo.
This sample is he first of a new system that uses specially designed headsto recover the audio. Here is the before and after of the special head system. This method (under development) reverses time degradation of analog base audio.
